Your GP checks growth, development, nutrition, sleep, behaviour, vaccinations and any concerns. Exams may include weight/height, vision/hearing screens and age-appropriate advice.
Follow your state’s Blue Book/Child Health Record schedule from birth to school entry (e.g., newborn, 1–4 weeks, 6–8 weeks, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months, then 2, 3 and 4 years). Bring the record to each visit.
Children receive free vaccines under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) at set ages (e.g., birth, 6 weeks, 4 months, 6 months*, 12 months, 18 months and 4 years; plus school-based at Year 7 and Year 10). Your GP follows the current schedule. (*6-month doses depend on risk/brand.)
Yes. Catch-up vaccines are free up to age 20 (HPV to age 25). Your GP can create a personalised catch-up plan.
Yes. From March 2025, NSW offers free RSV protection for newborns (nirsevimab) if not covered by mum’s pregnancy RSV vaccine; there’s also maternal RSV vaccination on the NIP for eligible pregnant people. Your GP or hospital team will advise what applies.

Seek medical care urgently for under-3-month-olds with ≥38 °C, or if fever lasts >3 days, reaches ≥40 °C, or your child seems very unwell. Otherwise, book a GP review if you’re worried at any time.
Yes—your GP can diagnose and manage common childhood conditions, create action plans (e.g., asthma), and arrange referrals when needed.
We track speech, movement, social and problem-solving skills against age-based milestones and discuss supports if delays are suspected. Trusted milestone resources are available for parents.
Usually yes—booking siblings together helps keep everyone up to date under the NIP. Your GP will confirm timing and any brand-specific rules (e.g., rotavirus age limits).
Yes. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for children ≥6 months, with 2 doses 4 weeks apart the first year a child is vaccinated if <9 years. Check your state schedule for details.
History reviews and some follow-ups can be done by phone/video, but physical exams, measurements and vaccines require an in-person visit.
